9held for gambling at Samarth Bungalows in Prahladnagar

The house was converted into a PG accommodation and operator used to let out the room for Rs 2,500 a day; Rs 1.02L cash seized

Anandnagar police arrested nine persons for gambling at ahouse in Prahladnagar late on Monday night and also seized cash and other items worth Rs 3.62 lakh from there.

The police team was on patrol duty on Monday night.

Following a tip-off, the officials reached House no. 8, Samarth Bungalows, Prahladnagar, and found gambling activities being carried out there. The house had been converted into a PG accommodation, Elis Hospitality Service, which was being operated by Mahipalsinh Chauhan. Those arrested include Anandnagar resident Chirag Thakkar (32), Thaltej resident Bhaitik Sanghvi (44), Ramdev Tekra resident Sachin Thakkar (33), Ranip resident Puna Thakkar (29), Anandnagar resident Alpesh Thakkar, (27), Asarwa resident Sachin Chaudhary (35), Satellite resident Ankit Thakkar (30), Sanathal resident Bhumin Arida and Jivraj Park resident Hareshkumar Thakkar (29).

Chauhan was not present at the spot. According to the FIR, Chirag Thakkar had told police that Mahipalsinh Chauhan used to let out the room for Rs 2,500 per day. Thakkar told the police that Mahipalsinh had gone out to invite other persons to the room. Police seized Rs 1.02 lakh cash besides mobiles and playing cards from the room.

Out for delivery, bootlegger caught inside Bopal society
A bootlegger who had gone to deliver liquor in Bopal area of Ahmedabad on Monday evening was caught by Bopal police from inside a posh society where he was to make the delivery. The police team was patrolling the area when they received a tip-off about a Shahpur resident coming to Iscon Platinum near Bopal crossroads to deliver alcohol in the area on a white two-wheeler. They immediately took their positions and waited for the person to arrive.

Sometime later, he arrived and went inside the society. As soon as he parked his two-wheeler at N block of the society, the cops rounded him and started questioning him. He introduced himself as Sarfaraz Sheikh, a resident of Beldarvad in Shahpur. The police personnel then checked the storage compartment of the two-wheeler and found three bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth around Rs 1,500.
