A criminal use Youtube to commit the crime

Chennai: Cuddalore police arrested a woman on charges of printing fake currency notes to overcome her debts. What’s more shocking about her modus operandi is that she used to watch YouTube video tutorials on how to print currency in order to commit the crime. A large number of fruit and flower sellers frequent the platforms at the Cuddalore bus stand.

One March 3, a well-dressed young woman reached this market. There, she purchased fruits from a vendor, identified as Kumudha, and handed her Rs 2000 note. Kumudha didn’t have the change and sought it from Thamizharasi, another fruit vendor nearby.

However, Thamizharasi was suspicious of the currency note. On the pretext of getting the change from another shop nearby, she reached the police outpost and showed the fake Rs 2,000 note to the policeman there. She then informed the police that a woman was trying to buy fruits using this note and police then decided to nab and question the woman. The police in Tiruppaadirippuliyur were alerted about this. A team led by Inspector Kumaraiya rushed to the Cuddalore bus stand. They tried arresting the woman who had tried to change a fake currency note.

However, she fled the spot. She then took a seat on a bus leaving for Panruti from Cuddalore. The police could intercept the bus and they rounded her up. She was immediately taken to the Tiruppaadirippuliyur police station. On searching her handbag, they found a total of Rs 69,700 in it. Of the total, 33 notes were in Rs 2,000 denomination, 5 notes with Rs 500 denomination and some Rs 200 notes.

The currency notes were seized by the police. They then subjected her to intense questioning. They came to know that the 35-year-old woman was Bharani Kumari and the wife of Nandakumar of Mariappa Nagar, Chidambaram. They have two daughters, Roopika and Sivapriya. Bharani Kumari is an MBA from a reputed university.  Her husband Nandakumar was engaged in his business and had suffered heavy losses. He had to borrow large sums of money from many people. Due to this, the family was in financial trouble. The lenders were demanding their money back. Bharani Kumari was mentally upset due to this and the family was pushed to penury. She was in the habit of watching YouTube videos on her mobile phone. She chanced upon the details of a gang that prints duplicate currency notes using common printing machines.

She was also studying the details of how these fake notes were to be exchanged. She decided that to get out of the financial crisis, she should print fake currency notes. Following this, she purchased a colour printing machine. She kept it in her house, hidden from her husband and the children. And when all of them were away, she made copies of currency notes and cut them to resemble the original currencies. Following this, she reached the Cuddalore bus stand yesterday afternoon to change these fake notes. Later, she was caught by the police. These details have emerged from the first stage of the investigation by the police. They are continuing their investigation.
