Many types of festivals are celebrated in India. One of the main festivals of India is Holi, celebrated with enthusiasm and glee in Phalgun month which is the month of March as per the Gregorian calendar.

Holi starts on the night before Holi with a Holika Dahan, where people gather, do religious rituals in front of the bonfire, and pray that their inner evil should be destroyed, just as the Holika , the sister of the demon king Hiranyakashipu, was killed in the fire. The next morning is celebrated as Holi - a festival of colors, where people smear each other with colors and. Water guns and balloons filled with water are also used to play and color each other.

Although Holi festival is celebrated throughout India, but in the state of Rajasthan, Holi has a special significance. In this state of art and culture, Holi festival is celebrated in different ways in different cities.

Lath mar Holi of Barsana village of Braj, Pathar Mar Holi of Barmer and Dungarpur, Phoolon ki holi (Holi of Flowers) Govind Devaji Temple Jaipur, Kankar mar Holi of Jaisalmer, etc are famous all over the world.

Lath mar Holi (Karauli and Bharatpur)

In the Barsana village of Braj, Holi is played in a different way called Lath mar Holi. The Holi celebrated in Braj is very special beceuse the festival is said to be a recreation of a Lord Krishna and Radha. Because Krishna was from Nandgaon and Radha was from Barsana.It takes place days before the actual Holi in the neighboring towns of Barsana and Nandgaon near Mathura in the state of Uttar Pradesh, where thousands of Hindus and tourists congregate, every year.The name means "that the Holi in which [people] hit with sticks "(laṭh is a thick traditional staff).

If legends is to be believed, Krishna hurled Radha and her friends, who in turn, responded by taking offence on their advice and driving him out of Barsana.

According to the legend, the men of Nandgaon come every year to rinse the city, only to be greeted by sticks (aka lathi) of the women. Ladies hurl sticks at the man, who try to shield themselves as much as possible.

Pathar Mar Holi (Barmer and Dungarpur)

In Rajasthan, tribal play Pathar Mar Holi, in which music instruments Dhol and Chung is used. As the beat of these music instruments get high, people start to throw rocks on other team faster. who try to shield themselves with lightweight shields and head turban.

Koda mar Holi (Kota)

In Rajasthan’s Beawar, people celebrated ‘Devar-Bhabhi Kodamar Holi’ in which bhabhi (sister-in-law) beats her devar (husband’s brother) with wet cloths.

Men who throw colour or water are whipped by their victims. While men enjoy the punishment, the women too seem to love inflicting it.

Phoolon Ki holi (Govind Devji Temple, Jaipur)

Although the festival is celebrated with great fanfare throughout the country, but the Holi of Rajasthan is famous all around the world. Similarly, the Govind Devaji Temple in Jaipur has a lot of recognition in Rajasthan too. Here Holi is played with red and yellow petals of flowers.

Dolchi Holi (Bikaner)

It is believed that there is an ancient tradition of celebrating Holi, this one dates back to 300 years back. Dolchi Holi adheres to a practice in which men pour water on other men in a vessel named Dolchi - which are made from camel's skins. Interestingly, this tradition started with a dispute between two communities. The reason for the dispute is food.

Dhulandi Holi (Jaipur)

Dhulandi Holi, which is mainly celebrated in Jaipur, shows the true essence of Rajasthani Holi. Traditional food, cultural programs and folk songs are the main attractions of this festival.

Mali Holi (Ajmer)

A popular method of celebrating Holi in the Mali community is the celebration of the celebration of Mali Holi, a tradition of men painting on women, who later respond to men by bamboo or stick. The custom marks brotherhood and bonhomie. It also brings brotherhood and unity among the folks.
