Aasu stir against 'corruption' in Assam government department

JORHAT: Activists of All Assam Student Union (Aasu) on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of Jorhat deputy commissioner's office, demanding a high-level inquiry into the alleged anomalies in appointments in state Panchayat and Rural development (P&RD) and Janasanyog department.

"We have demanded CBI inquiry to investigate these reported anomalies.

The chief minister and his colleagues are only busy in making tall claims of having zero tolerance against corruption. But, in reality, his cabinet colleagues are involved in corruption," said Aasu organising secretary Jul Khound.

In a statement, Aasu Jorhat district general secretary Jitu Neog said, "The anomalies in P&RD department took place in the chief minister's constituency of Majuli . A BJP leader identified himself as a close aid of the CM and gave jobs to four of his relatives in P&RD department through nepotism."
