A'bad to receive moderate rain

The Indian Meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall for much of Gujarat, particularly upper Saurashtra, south Gujarat and east-central part of the state. Dr Jayanta Sarkar, Director of Gujarat IMD said, “A low pressure system developing in the N-NW Bay of Bengal, a cyclonic circulation is developing in South Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan and another cyclonic circulation is developing in South Gujarat and adjoining areas.

All these three systems show favourable signs for Gujarat to receive widespread rainfall.”

He added, “Ahmedabad is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in sporadic fashion while the district as a whole will see heavy rainfall in the coming days.” Heavy to very heavy rains at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls expected in Bharuch Narmada, Surat and Tapi in South Gujarat and in Jamnagar, Rajkot and Surendranagar. Heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places very likely Dahod Anand, Mahisagar, the Panchmahals, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli in the South region, while the same conditions are likely to prevail in Saurashtra, at Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Morbi, Porbandar.

NDRF deploys 15 teams across Gujarat

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 15 teams across different districts of Gujarat in response to the predictions of heavy rainfall. There are eight teams deployed in Saurashtra-Kutch at Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir-Somnath, Porbandar, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi and Kutch; three in Surat, Navsari and Valsad and two in Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
