Abohar student succumbs to injuries

Abohar: A 16-year-old student, who was brutally thrashed by some unidentified youths on September 30 at Seed Farm in Abohar, succumbed on Saturday.

According to police, Akashdeep, a resident of local Ajit Nagar area, had an altercation with some youth at Pacca Seed Farm village during ‘jagran’ on September 29.

The matter was resolved with the intervention of the village panchayat. Next day, when Akashdeep, along with his friend Davinder Kumar, was standing near his school some unidentified youths attacked him with sticks, injuring both of them.

Both the injured students were taken to the local civil hospital but seeing critical condition of Akashdeep, he was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot from where he was discharged last week. On Saturday, Akashdeep’s condition again started deteriorating following which he was taken to a private hospital in Sri Ganganagar, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was the only son of his parents.

When contacted, SHO Chander Shekher said a case was registered against some unidentified youths under sections 323 and 34 IPC on September 30, on the statement of Akashdeep. Now, murder would be added to the charges. The body of the deceased has been sent for an autopsy and a manhunt launched to nab the accused.
