'Accidental firing' injures contractor

PANCHKULA: A 41-year-old contractor sustained bullet injuries in a suspected case of accidental firing incident outside a liquor vend situated on the borders of Panchkula and Chandigarh in Mansa Devi Complex on Friday.


Satpal, a resident of Pinjore, said he along with three others was coming in a car from Industrial Area, Phase II, Chandigarh, after buying some material for his pet shop in Pinjore.

He said when they reached near the liquor vend, he got down to answer a call of nature. “As I crossed the road and reached in front of the liquor vend, I heard a bang sound and fell down on the ground, realising I have been hit on my legs. I then saw someone picking up a .12 bore rifle and running away,” he alleged.

Satpal was taken to General Hospital, Sector 6, from where he was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Mohit Handa said, “We received information regarding the firing at 6.15 pm. Teams from crime branch and Mansa Devi Complex police station are investigating the case.”

Police said preliminary investigation hinted that the case to be of accidental firing, probably by a a security guard who had come to the vend to buy some liquor.
