Nagachandreshwar Temple is located on the third floor of Mahakal Temple in Ujjain. The biggest feature of this temple is that it is opened only for darshan on the day of Nag Panchami.

According to beliefs, Nagaraja Takshak himself is present in this temple. Because of this, the Nag Devta is worshiped only by opening the temple on the day of Nag Panchami. Along with this, the Nagachandreshwar temple is special for the people of Hinduism in many ways. There is an 11th-century statue in the Nagachandreshwar temple, which is claimed to have such a statue nowhere else in the world. This statue was brought here from Nepal.

Shankar sits on the bed of Lord Snake in place of Lord Vishnu in Nagachandreshwar temple. The ancient idol installed in the temple rests on the Dasamukhi snake bed with Shiva Ji, Ganesh Ji, and Maa Parvati. According to mythological beliefs, Serparaja Taksha had done severe penance to please Lord Bholenath. Lord Shankar was pleased with the penance of Sarparaja and then he gave immortality as a boon to Takshak Nag, the king of serpents. From then on, the Takshak king started dwelling in the proximity of the Lord. But before residing in Mahakal forest, he intended that there should be no disturbance in his solitude, because of this his temple is opened only on the day of Nag Panchami.

This ancient temple was built by King Bhoja around 1050 AD. After this, the Mahaka Temple was renovated in the year 1732 by Ranoji Scindia, the Maharaja of the Scindia Gharana. At the same time, this temple was also renovated. Devotees coming to this temple have a longing to see Lord Shankar once upon Nagraj. Millions of devotees visit here on the day of Nag Panchami.
