After Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar now supports Mumbai Metro

Mumbai | Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar created a buzz after he shared a video riding the Mumbai Metro to cut sort his travelling time.

Sharing the video, he wrote, “My ride for today, the @MumMetro…travelled #LikeABoss from Ghatkopar to Versova beating the peak hours traffic.”

In the video, the actor shares his experience of travelling in the Metro. He said that he was shooting in Ghatkopar and had to reach Versova. His map showed him two hours and five minutes to reach Versova from Ghatkopar. Then his director Raj, who is directing Good Newwz, suggested taking the Metro.

He later went on to praise Metro for its  “elevation” and its ability for functioning smoothly even during heavy rains.

“I think it is the only means of transportation that is on elevation and no amount of rain can affect its function”, he said.

Mumbai Metro is currently facing a lot of flak for its plan on constructing a Metro car shed through the Aarey forests in Goregaon.

Mumbaikars have taken to the streets to protest against the cutting of trees. More than 2,500 trees are estimated to be cut for the proposal.

Not just Akshay Kumar, Superstar Amitabh Bachchan in a recent tweet had also praised the Mumbai Metro for its efficiency and convenience.

“Friend of mine had a medical emergency, decided to take METRO instead of his car .. came back very impressed .. said was faster, convenient and most efficient. Solution for Pollution .. Grow more trees .. I did in my garden .. have you”, he wrote on Twitter.

Twitter users soon came forward to remind him that ‘planting a tree in a garden’ is quite different than the felling of 2,500 trees.

“Not everyone has their own backyard in Mumbai. We don’t want celebrities like yourself who is widely loved and respected to be a propaganda artist for the ills that are plaguing the people and society. Sir you can enjoy fresh air in your backyard. Let us breathe using Aarey Forces”, a user hit back.

Mumbai Metro approved this on Twitter and they were ‘glad’ that his friend could depend on the service.

The Managing director of Mumbai Metro Ashwini Bhide shared Mr Bachchan’s tweet and thanked him for supporting the transport service.

“Thank u  @SrBachchan ji fr depicting d importance of #Metro so succinctly. Thank you for ur support. We’r committed 2 commission entire #MumbaiMetro network incldng @MumbaiMetro @ d earliest r prvide faster, safer, convenient & #PollutionFree commute 2 #Mumbaikars”, she wrote.

At the end of the tweet, she put the hastag ‘#AareyAikaNa’ which roughly translates to “Listen, Aarey’, a form of address to the Aarey protestors.

The timing for all the sudden support raised speculation among the social media users whether it is all part of a propaganda to influence people to stop protesting for the Aarey forest.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Actress Mouni Roy recently suffered a mishap due to the Metro construction. A rock fell on her car from the construction above, damaging her car.

“Was on my way to work at Juhu signal a huge rock falls on the car 11 floors up. cant help but think what if anybody was crossing the road. Any suggestions as to what to be done with such irresponsibility of the Mumbai metro?”, she wrote.

However, no assistance or reassurance was provided to her by the Metro authorities.
