After autopsy, police await viscera reports

Ludhiana: The post-mortem of one of the two cows, who were found buried in the house of an ex-serviceman in Pahaud Wala village of Jamalpur, was conducted by a board of four veterinary doctors on Wednesday. The doctors have sent its viscera for examination to a Kharar laboratory.

While Shiv Sena Hindustan, who took up the issue with police after receiving a complaint, is seeking an FIR, cops say they would proceed further after receiving the viscera report.

A member of Shiv Sena Hindustan, Chandar Kant Chadha, said, “On Wednesday, we met commissioner of police Sukhchain Singh Gill, seeking an FIR in the case. Two cows are buried in the house of ex-serviceman Avtar Singh. While the remains of one have been recovered, that of the other could not be as Avtar has constructed pillars at the spot.”

“The ex-serviceman is an occultist. He killed cows to gain supernatural powers. His claims that he buried cows at his house due to months-long strike at the animal dumping ground are hard to believe. Besides, why were pillars constructed at the spot where cows were buried? We will intensify our agitation if police fail to take any action,” he added.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP-Industrial Area A) Harjinder Singh said, “The autopsy of the cow’s remains has been conducted. We are awaiting the viscera report, which will make the cause of death clear.”

On Tuesday, a villager had approached Shiv Sena Hindustan, accusing Avtar of slaughtering two cows and burying them inside his house. Refuting the allegations, Avtar, a milkman who owns nine cows, said, “Four months ago, one of my cows fell ill. I took it to a veterinary doctor in Buddewal, but it could not be saved. Two months later, my other cow, too, died of illness. Due to a months-long strike at the animal dumping ground, I had to bury the animals in my verandah.”

About the allegations of occult practices, Avtar said, “I had a fight with one of my neighbours over an electricity connection following which a complaint was lodged with the police. He is now implicating me in the case.”
