After delay, Calangute-Candolim shacks to start business by Sat

Calangute: Some of the beach shacks along the Calangute-Candolim coastal belt are likely to commence operations this weekend, sources said. Shack operators said work is under way to erect the structures after the tourism department finished demarcation of the plots in the first week of November. Once erected, the department will conduct an inspection, following which the shack licence is issued.

However, sources said some operators in Baga are yet to start work on their structures owing to differences between shack owners over the demarcation of plots.

Sand erosion following cyclone Kyarr last month has also led to the delay. Some operators have created raised platforms with sand bags to start erecting their shacks.
