Agra: City buses to have CCTV cameras, panic button

100 buses are proposed to be replaced with eco-friendly electric buses. Agra: Under the smart city project, CCTV cameras and panic buttons will be installed in city buses. Each bus will have two CCTV cameras and one panic button.

A panic button will allow passengers to press for help in case of any trouble.

The CCTV cameras and panic button will be directly connected to the smart city control room at Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) premises.


Besides, for convenience of passengers, an announcement system will be installed in buses to inform them about the next stop.

The Agra smart city project includes upgradation of local transport system.

In this regard, deputy managing director of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) met the MD of Agra-Mathura city transport service, RBL Sharma, on Thursday.

During the meeting, a proposal to install CCTV cameras and panic button in city buses was discussed.

Sharma said, “All the buses operating in the city will be equipped with CCTV cameras and panic buttons. An announcement system will also be installed in the buses. The work will be done by BEL. In the first phase, buses operating on MG Road will be covered.”

Presently, there are 170 CNG-operated buses in the city.

Out of these, 100 buses are proposed to be replaced with eco-friendly electric buses.
