Ahmedabad: Four dead, one critical after car-bus collision

AHMEDABAD: As many as four persons died and one suffered critical injuries on Sunday when the car carrying them rammed into a luxury bus on the state highway connecting Dakor with Galteshwar in Kheda district .


The deceased were identified as Rasik Chandulal Patel, 75, Arvind Vitthal Patel,70, Ghanshyam Nagindas Patel,82, and Suresh Dalsukh Patel,72.

The injured person, Hariprasad Shankarlal Patel, 49, has been admitted to a private hospital.

All the accident victims were residents of Sahjanand Society in Godhra and were returning from Vadtal Swaminarayan temple. One of the deceased, Ghanshyam Nagindas, was treasurer of Godhra Swaminarayan temple and Arvind Vitthal was former trustee of Vadtal Swaminarayan temple board.


Rasik Chandulal was also general secretary of Kachhiya Patel Samaj, a community forum.



Kheda district superintendent of police (SP), Divya Mishra, said that the car had rammed into a luxury bus coming from the opposite direction.

“The accident might have occurred in panic as the car driver suddenly saw the bus rushing in and lost control. The powerful impact turned the car around full 180 degrees,” said Mishra.

The car driver might have tried to overtake some vehicle at high speed and suddenly come in front of the bus without having time to react, added Mishra.

Mishra said that even the airbags were activated and the people travelling in the car were wearing seat-belts, but succumbed to injuries due to the severe impact.

He said that forensic experts were also called in to analyse the accident scene.

A case of negligent driving causing death has been registered at Sevaliya police station in Kheda and investigation is on.
