Ahmedabad: 'Migrant' beaten by 8 men, car damaged

AHMEDABAD: A 42-year-old man, a resident of Gota, on Monday filed a complaint with Sola high court police stating that seven to eight men, who lived in the same residential society where the complainant lives, assaulted him and told him to leave the house as “he was a native of another state”.

The incident recalls the attacks on migrants from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar last year following remarks of Alpesh Thakor, who switched his loyalty recently from Congress to BJP, after a toddler girl was raped in Sabarkantha.

According to the FIR filed by Ashutosh Pandey, who runs transport business, he was on his way to his work place in Meghaninagar in his high-end car when a resident of his housing society overtook him on his bike. Pandey stopped his car, the man identified as Chetan Patel and his father Kanu Patel began abusing the complainant.

Soon, around five to six other men rushed there and tried to pull Pandey out of his car. According to the FIR, the men were constantly telling Pandey “on how he became a leader of the society. Pandey was against Gujaratis as he was a migrant and he would be killed.” The men also threatened Pandey that they would eliminate his entire family if he does not leave the society. Suddenly, the men started thrashing Pandey and abusing him. One of the accused persons came with a stick which he banged on his car and broken the glass worth Rs 1.50 lakh, states the FIR. In the scuffle, Pandey also lost his gold-chain worth Rs 60,000, states the FIR.

Pandey was rescued by his friend. Later, they approached Sola high court police and filed a complaint under charges of unlawful assembly, assault, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint and causing damage along with other sections of IPC.
