Ahmedabad, Surendranagar breach 41°C mark again

AHMEDABAD: After relatively cooler week, the city and state will again brace up for the harsh summer — on Sunday, Ahmedabad and Surendranagar again breached the 410°C mark with the latter recording state’s highest temperature of 41.3°C . The Met department forecast mentions that the temperature will hover around 41°C on the election day ie April 23.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), average temperature in the region hovered around 38-39°C. While there is no major change in maximum temperature over the region, the IMD forecast mentions high temperature warning for April 23, 24 and 25 in Banaskantha and Sabarkantha where the temperatures can go above 41°C. The minimum temperature remained stable around 25-26°C, resulting in cooler nights. The weather has also resulted in heat-related emergencies. “It’s an active period for many - right from the students enjoying vacation to those going for vacations. Long exposure to heat can result in sun stroke. We are getting an average of 700 cases daily from Gujarat related to heat emergencies. We advise periodic consumption of liquid in different forms like lemonade, buttermilk, juice, coconut water, etc. Cover your head and take periodic breaks in shaded area if you have to remain outdoors for longer hours,” said an EMRI 108 official.
