Ahmednagar sand mining – Police seize JCBs, tractors, worth Rs 1.5 crores

Ahmednagar NPnews24 online : The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Ahmednagar district police on Saturday busted a sand mafia operating in the Pune-Ahmednagar district border area. The accused persons used to illegaly lift sand from Bhima river.

Acting on tip-off received by LCB Police Inspector Dilip Pawar, a team comprising police personnel Vijakumar Vitekar, Vinod Mashalkar and others raided Bhima river bank near Arvi village around 2 pm.

In order to avoid detection, the policemen had reached there secretly. However, the sand mafia men got a wind of it an dthey started fleeing. However, the cops managed to nab two of them and also seized seven JCBs and six tractors and other materials, totally worth Rs 1.5 crores.

Now the process of registering FIR against the accused is going on at Shrigonda police station.
