AIADMK distributes applications for local body polls

Coimbatore/Salem: Distribution of applications for AIADMK men willing to contest local body posts commenced at a brisk pace in Coimbatore on Friday.

Municipal administration minister S P Velumani kickstarted the distribution process as scores of AIADMK men from rural and urban areas collected applications for the posts of the Coimbatore corporation mayor, councillors as well as for posts in rural local bodies.

Though not many prominent faces collected the applications, former east zone chairman K R Jayaram received an application for the post of the mayor.

Giving away the applications, Velumani said that the morale of the cadres was high because the public mood is in favour of AIADMK. “The excitement among AIADMK cadres in collecting the applications for contesting in the local body polls is a sign of public mood. The pace of development Coimbatore is witnessing under the AIADMK government is higher than the last 50 years,” he said.

To a query, the minister said that the victory in bypolls in Vikravandi and Nanguneri is a recognition of the welfare measures of the government. “Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has filled the leadership vacuum in the state.”

A large number of cadres collected the applications in Salem also. The distribution began at two places a marriage hall in Salem for urban posts and at the party office in Omalur for rural local body posts.

AIADMK urban district secretary Venkatachalam, former mayors Soundappan and former MP Panneerselvam collected the applications to contest for the post of the Salem mayor.
