'AIADMK not Lala sweet stall for Sasikala, kin to open branches'

Chennai: ‘Namadhu Amma’, AIADMK’s party organ, on Monday launched a scathing attack on the ‘Mannargudi clan’, including V K Sasikala, a close aide of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, now serving prison term in the disproportionate assets case under the Anti-Corruption Act. The development comes amid speculation about a possible patch up with Sasikala and her re-entry into the AIADMK following her release from the Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru, expected sometime next year.

A verse, penned by Chithragupthan, a pseudonym of ‘Namadhu Amma’ editor Marudhu Alaguraj, hit out at Sasikala and her family for trying to create confusion among the AIADMK cadres and looking for opportunities to make a possible re-entry into the party. While the attack was in reaction to AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran’s recent statement that the AIADMK will survive only until the next elections and after that it will merge with the AMMK, it did not leave out any member of the clan, including Sasikala.

“The AIADMK is not a mushroom that sprouted after recent rains. It is a deep-rooted banyan tree that can withstand any storm for years to come,” said the verse. “The party is alive based on the hard work of its 1.5 crore cadres and they will never allow people in jail as well as ones on bail to suck their blood again,” it said. It chided the Mannargudi clan, saying “The AIADMK is not a ‘Lala’ sweet stall for members of (Sasikala) family to open a branch”.

Such a strong attack by the party organ has come as a surprise to many, especially after a disgruntled leader from the AMMK — Pugazhendhi — recently met chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. While the vernacular media ran stories about Sasikala having sent word to Palaniswami for facilitating her re-entry, AIADMK coordinator and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam had stated that the party leadership will take a call.

“What Namadhu Amma has written reflects the truth in the party today. All other news is a creation of Sasikala’s family. Even members of the public will not accept Sasikala’s reentry into the party,” said a senior AIADMK leader on condition of anonymity.
