Ajmer turnout low, candidates worry

Ajmer: Low turnout in students’ union polls here not only gave jitters to the contestants, but also proved students were losing interest in the process.

Voting in Ajmer, Beawar, Kishangarh, Bikaynagar and Pushkar colleges started from 8am even as contestants struggled to bring their supporters from their homes.

Heavy police bandobast also meant that no one was allowed to enter without identity cards.

Till 10am, voting was extremely low as contestants eagerly waited for the process to pick up pace. Students who did not vote said they did not want to become part of dirty college politics.

Lowest voting was recorded in Smarat Prithviraj Chouchan Government College where only 36.85 per cent out of 8,350 students exrercised their franchise.

In Kishangargh Government College, 39 per cent voters out of 4,887 came to vote. Here the contest is between ABVP, NSUI and Independents.

In Maharishi Dayanand Sarswati University, 66.44 per cent voters out of 785 voted.
