Alappuzha: Two policemen transferred after their video driving police vehicle without seat belt goes viral

ALAPPUZHA: Alappuzha district police chief on Thursday deployed DCRB Dy SP VN Saji to hold a department level inquiry into the issue of two policemen driving a vehicle of Aroor police station in Kerala without wearing seat belt.



DPC KM Tomy said that the inquiry report will be submitted soon and department level action like preventing increment of the accused will be taken against the police officials based on the report.



It was on August 15 when the incident took place around 1.15pm at collectorate junction . Aroor police station grade SI K Veerendrakumar and driver TV Siddarthan were returning to the police station after giving pilot to Sri Lankan minister John Amaratunga, who was coming to Kuttanad from Kochi, for a private visit. The driver Siddarthan was driving the jeep without wearing the seat belt. A youth hailing from Mavelikkara riding two-wheeler saw him, blocked the police jeep and asked the driver to wear the seat belt. He also shot a camera with the help of camera fixed in his helmet.

After the video went viral in social media, district police chief transferred grade SI K Veerendrakumar and driver T V Siddarthan from Aroor police station on Wednesday. The police chief said that SI was transferred to Kayamkulam and the driver was transferred to AR camp in Alappuzha.
