Aligarh police declares Rs 50k reward for information of kidnapper

AGRA: A cash reward of Rs 50,000 was announced on Saturday by Aligarh police for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of a woman who abducted a five-month-old infant from outside the district jail in Aligarh on Friday.

Aligarh SSP Akash Kulhari said that that child’s photographs have already been circulated everywhere, including on social media platforms and on WhatsApp groups of the police.

He said a sketch of suspected abductor has been sent everywhere to identify her.

Notably, the abduction took place on Friday, when the child’s mother, Priyanka, was busy completing formalities for meeting an inmate lodged there. According to police, the incident occurred during meeting hours at 11:30am, when a resident of Parawali village, Priyanka, gave her toddler, Umang, to her 6-year-old niece and went for stamping of papers. She was there to meet her brother-in-law, Suresh Pal, who is in judicial custody in a theft case. Priyanka’s father-in-law, Kanchan Singh told TOI that his grandson was in Simran’s lap. He said that the unidentified woman forcibly took the baby from Simran’s lap on pretext of playing with him and then disappeared.
