Alignment report of new bridge to be submitted to Centre soon

JORHAT: The Assam government has prepared a detail alignment report of the proposed Majuli- Jorhat bridge over Brahmaputra and has prepared a project estimate Rs 2443 crore. This will be submitted before the Centre soon.


A top official of public works department in the state told TOI, “An estimate of Rs 2443 crore has been prepared for Majuli-Jorhat bridge and the alignment report has also been prepared to be submitted to the Centre.

The estimated total cost of the bridge will be Rs 1,701 crore. A 30.2-km long and 15-meter wide road will also be constructed from Kamalabari in Majuli to Dangoria Ali in Teok in Jorhat district by acquisition of land from its owners. Besides the approach roads, the total project includes three small RCC bridges in Majuli and one at Melengchiga in Jorhat district.”

He added, “The proposed bridge will be constructed from Dighaliagaon at Dakhinpat in Majuli to Jhanjimukh Hatihal in Jorhat, with a total length of 6.75 km. The breadth of the bridge will be 15 meters.”

Earlier, a team of experts from the Centre had conducted a survey to construct the Majuli-Jorhat bridge from Neematighat in Jorhat district to Kamalabari in Majuli district. But the latest survey has changed the previous alignment report and has decided to construct the bridge from Dighaliagaon at Dakhinpat in Majuli to Jhanjimukh-Hatihal in Jorhat.
