All Bhagalpur long distance trains to get electric engines

BHAGALPUR: Eastern Railways (ER) will soon introduce electric engines in all long distance trains either originating from Bhagalpur Junction or passing through it.

The ER recently attached electric engine to Bhagalpur-Anand Vihar Terminal Vikramshila Express after the completion of electrification work in Bhagalpur-Jamalpur-Kiul railway section under Malda railway division.

ER officials said efforts were on to introduce electrical engines in other long distance trains, such as Bhagalpur–Yashwantpur Ang Express, Bhagalpur–Jammu Tawi Amarnath Express, Ajmer–Bhagalpur Express, Anand Vihar–Malda Town Weekly Express, Bhagalpur–Anand Vihar Garib Rath, Surat–Bhagalpur Express and Bhagalpur–Ranchi Vananchal Express.

The railways has also issued notifications for running of two more trains – Bhagalpur -Muaaffarpur Express and Sahebganj-Danapur Intercity Express – with electric engines.

“The objective to replace old diesel engines with electric engines is ensuring fast movement of trains,” Bhagalpur railway station manager Samar Kumar Singh said.

The 247km stretch on Kiul-Bhagalpur-Sahibganj-Barharwa-Malda route has been electrified, while work on electrifying the 277km stretch from Malda to Tildanga via Ajimganj and Farakka is nearing completion. “These routes were electrified for introduction of new and faster trains in future,” Singh said.
