All-women cop teams launched in Vizianagaram

Visakhapatnam: A team of 24 young women police personnel, known as the Shakthi team , has been commissioned in Vizianagaram to come to the rescue of women facing eve-teasing and other harassment in public places in Vizianagaram Town, Parvathipuram, Gajapathinagaram, Bobbili, Saluru, Kothavalasa and Garividi in Vizianagaram district.

Vizianagaram superintendent of police B Raja Kumari said that 10 teams will keep an eye on eve-teasers and those subjecting women to harassment in public places in the district. Raja Kumari said that the Shakthi teams will work from 8 am to 6 pm near schools, colleges, railway stations, bus stations and other junctions.

The 24 women police personnel in the 10 teams will have a two-wheeler for mobility to attend to complaints and will interact with school and college students to create awareness about their services. The teams underwent training in various skills and laws related to women’s safety for effective policing. Raja Kumari appealed to girls and women to lodge complaints through the police WhatsApp number for quick response.
