Allahabad cops launch tenant verification drive

ALLAHABAD: Police have launched a special campaign for verification of tenants in various parts of Allahabad, with special focus on four sensitive localities, to keep a watch on floating population and their activities.

The tenant verification forms have been provided to police stations and cops have been asked to complete the exercise by November 15.

The move is seen as part of security measures being adopted ahead of Supreme Court’s verdict on Ayodhya case which is expected later this month.

The special focus of the campaign will be on communally sensitive areas of the city falling under the jurisdiction of four police stations – Dhoomanganj, Kareli, Kotwali and Colonelganj.

Cops will also keep an eye on the activities of people who have extended their visas recently.

SSP, Prayagraj, Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said: “A special campaign has been launched to verify the credentials of tenants in the city areas which have considerable floating population. Cops have been asked to complete the exercise at the earliest.”

"Tenant verification forms have been dispatched to four police stations which are sensitive in terms of mixed population and having high number of tenants or floating population. The four identified areas are communally sensitive,” he added.

While carrying out the exercise, cops will compile details of tenants including name, permanent address, mobile number, profession, duration of stay in the city/district and background.

Sleuths of local intelligence unit (LIU) have also been roped in to assist the police in compilation of data.

A police officer, on condition of anonymity, said: “Senior officials have reviewed the records of communally sensitive areas and have chalked out a concrete security plan.”

A list of over a dozen localities, including Baghara, Chhota Baghara, Rajapur, Kareli, Meerapur and Sulemsarai, has been prepared which has high floating population.

“Tenant verification forms will be available at police stations from Monday. We have appealed to property owners to approach police and get the credentials of tenants verified,” the SSP said.
