Allahabad: Trichy gang didn't use phones, executed crimes without recce

ALLAHABAD: Members of the Tiruchirappalli-based gang, who executed the Rs 1.63 crore cash van heist in Civil Lines area of Allahabad on October 3, did not use mobile phones and never conducted any recce before committing a crime.

It is also for the first time that the mastermind of the gang, Mukesh Kumar of Bhulaipatti in Manikandam (Trichy), has fallen in police net.

A total of nine gang members have been arrested so far. The gang was operating from Ramji Purma village in Tamil Nadu.

SSP, Allahabad, Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said: “Mukesh Kumar was the kingpin of the gang which has 50-60 members. They did not carry out recce and travelled long distances to execute crimes.”

Speaking about the Allahabad cash van theft case, the SSP said: “Two brothers, Prem Koiri and Aditya Koiri, entered the cabin of cash van through window and stole the cash box. They handed over the cash box to other gang members who left for Varanasi and then to Bardhaman in West Bengal.”

The SSP said the gang carried back-up along with the main members and operated in well organised manner. “They usually didn’t carry mobile phones. If required, they purchased it before committing crime and destroyed it at the earliest.”

“The gang members took shelter near temples or inns and used their local language for communication,” a senior police official privy to the investigation said.

“The gang’s agents were particularly active in Madangir (Delhi), West Bengal and Tripura. They used to change their names and carried fake identities to dodge law enforcement agencies,” he added.

The police are looking for at least 10 more members of the gang who are particularly active in UP. The gang has adequate strength of women and children who even work as labourers or vendors during their stay in various cities to avoid suspicion.

“The gang used to carry out thefts at places where they could get hefty amount. They kept changing their location to dodge police,” he said.

According to cops, West Bengal and Tripura were key operational areas of the gang.
