Allahabad University expels seven students from hostel for ragging

Allahabad: The Allahabad University administration on Saturday suspended seven students and expelled them from hostel following complaints of ragging by junior inmates of Sir Sunder Lal Hostel. A police complaint has also been filed against them at Colonelganj police station.

The accused students have been identified as Anand Kaushal Singh, Uttam Kumar, Nilesh Kumar Agrahari, Aditya Singh, Vishal Yadav, all of BA-III, along with Sanjay Pal and Ashwani Yadav of BA-II.

The eighth accused is still to be identified. Proctor, Prof Ram Sewak Dubey, said, “Students of BA-I had complained that senior students took them to hostel roof around midnight in the garb of taking introduction and ragged them.” “The freshers were compelled to kneel and hold ears. They also hurled abuses at freshers and told them to do the same,” he added. The senior students have been suspended and a show-case notice issued to them.

“The accused have been told to report at the proctor’s office on August 13 to explain their conduct. All seven students have been ordered to vacate the hostel within 24 hours,” the proctor said. He has also submitted a complaint of ragging at Colonelganj police station for lodging an FIR.
