Alwar lynching case: Family ends protest after 3 days

Alwar: After three days of staging a protest, the family members of Rattiram Jatav (60) called off their protest on Sunday. Rattiram’s son Harish Jatav (28) was allegedly beaten to death by a mob about a month ago following a traffic accident.

Rattiram, Harish’s father committed suicide late on Thursday night at his house in Alwar .

The family members of Rattiram alleged that he was getting threats from the accused. The family had earlier refused the post-mortem but agreed after the senior officials held talks with them.

“Rattiram’s body was handed over to the family after the medical board conducted a post-mortem. We are conducting investigation in the case. The family has not given us any FIR regarding his suicide,” said Jaipur IG Range S Sengathir.

Jatav’s family said Rattiram was under pressure from one Jamaluddin and his family to withdraw the case against him.

“For past several days Jamaluddin and his sons were threatening my father to withdraw the case. My father was deeply troubled by these threats. Unfortunately, he could not take the pressure and ended his life on Thursday night,” his son Dinesh said.

The family has been insisting on the fact that Harish Jatav was lynched by a mob. They have also alleged that the accused are still roaming freely without any fear. They added that this has been possible due to connivance with the local police.

“Police are not doing anything. We do not have the money to bribe the police. We are humiliated by police officials on a daily basis,” Dinesh said.

Rekha, Harish’s widow had also threatened to commit suicide if justice is denied to the family.
