'Alwar to be divided into two police districts'

JAIPUR: CM Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday reiterated during the budget session that Alwar will be divided into two police districts. There will be a separate superintendent of police (SP) for the newly formed Bhiwadi police district, which is presently a part of the Alwar district police.

Following the gang-rape of a Dalit woman in Thanagazi in Alwar, because of which the state government received severe backlash, Gehlot had announced bifurcation of Alwar police district.

In the announcement made in May, Gehlot had called Alwar a ‘critical’ district in terms of high registration of police cases and stated that a detailed analysis found that the registration of cases there is above 17,000 as compared to 6,000 to 7,000 annually in other districts, because of which Alwar required special attention. There has been a long-standing demand for two SPs in Alwar, an NCR district which shares the border with Haryana .

There had been a demand within the police headquarters (PHQ) for long regarding the sanctioning of one more SP in the district, which shot into prominence after a Dalit woman was gang-raped in front of her husband in Thanagazi area of the district on April 26.
