Alwar: Two gangsters held in Behror police station raid case

JAIPUR/ALWAR: A day after a Haryana-based gang raided Behror thana in Alwar and fled with their leader Vikram Singh alias Papla, police on Saturday said it had arrested two accused and detained a few more for their alleged involvement in the crime.

DGP Bhupendra Singh said the arrested, identified as Vinod Swami and Kaliash Chandra, were being interrogated and a senior ASP of the Special Operations Group (SOG) had been appointed the investigation officer.

Earlier in the day, Singh held a meeting with senior officers of Haryana police in Dharuhera. Till filing of this report, there was no information on the whereabouts of Vikram.

Additional DGP (crime) BL Soni said out of the 15 shooters who had stormed the police station, 10 had been identified and their native addresses had been tracked down. “We have also gathered vital information about the remaining five and have zeroed down on people who can identify them,” he said.

According to Bhiwadi SP Amandeep Singh Kapoor, different police stations have picked up suspects for the interrogation. A special task force of state intelligence division is camping in Bhiwadi and Alwar. “They are scanning CCTV camera footage and examining old records and criminal dossiers,” an officer said.

The gang, which was armed with two AK47 rifles and automatic pistols, rained fire as they freed Vikram from the police custody in a daredevil raid. Bhiwadi police have also detained several other suspects who are being interrogated at different police stations. Additional police commando platoons have been deployed on highways passing through Alwar, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Churu, Bikaner and Dausa.

Vikram, a wanted fugitive from Mahendragarh in Haryana, was apprehended by Behror police at 4am on Friday. He had identified himself as one Sahil and the police assumed him to be some rookie criminal. The mistake proved costly when his underlings fired with full ferocity at the police station the same day at 9am.
