Amarinder to tour border areas today, tomorrow

Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, who had to delay his departure from Chandigarh due to inclement weather, followed by air space restrictions, held meetings with army, paramilitary and Punjab police officials in Jalandhar late on Wednesday.

An official spokesperson said Amarinder would go around the border areas in the districts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Pathankot, Faridkot and Ferozepur over the next two days (Thursday and Friday) to instill confidence among the people.

Meanwhile, Amarinder asked the police and security forces to sensitise the people about the situation, in the wake of the Indian Air Force (IAF) air strikes on militant hideouts across the Line of Control (LoC), following the Pulwama attack on a CRPF convoy in Kashmir.

Earlier, Amarinder was to leave for Pathankot on Wednesday morning and was to travel by road to villages in the border areas of Pathankot and Amritsar. After his night stay at Amritsar on Wednesday, the chief minister was to visit border areas in the Tarn Taran district and would halt for the night on Thursday at Faridkot.

Punjab had put its border districts on high alert following air strikes.
