Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) Election 2019: Triangular contest among BJP, Congress, BSP for Lok Sabha seat

Lucknow: The Amroha Lok Sabha constituency in the state of Uttar Pradesh went to polls on April 18 in the second phase of the 2019 general elections. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) fielded Kuwar Danish Ali from the seat, while sitting Member of Parliament from the constituency Kanwar Singh Tanwar represented the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Sachin Chaudhary contested for the Congress.

The Amroha constiteuncy  is one of the 80 Lok Sabha seats from the state of UP in the lower house of Parliament. The constituency is divided into five Assembly segments, of which one is reserved for the candidates of the Schedule Caste category. The total number of electorate in the constituency is 11,73,915, out of which 6,41,735 are men and 5,32,180 are women. The constituency has a literacy rate of 71 per cent. The sex ratio in the constituency is 910 females per 1,000 males.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kanwar Singh Tanwar of the BJP had routed his Samajwadi Party challenger Humera Akhtar by a margin of 1,58,214 votes or 14.4 per cent. The 2014 elections saw the BJP sweeping the state and winning 73 seats along with its ally in the state and the whole opposition reduced to just seven seats.

Amroha along with seven other constituencies in UP went to polls on April 18 in the second phase of the general elections. The 2019 Lok Sabha polls are spread over seven phases and the results will be announced on May 23, establishing the 17th Lok Sabha.
