Andhra Pradesh: Guntur rural police seize huge liquor stock

GUNTUR: Crossing the Krishna river has become the favourite route for the bootleggers for illegal transport of liquor from neighbouring Telangana to Andhra Pradesh . The Guntur rural district police stepped up surveillance along the river crossing points. In addition, the rural police have also been strengthening the informer network to bust the illegal transport of liquor into the state.




In a major catch on Tuesday, Guntur rural police seized massive stock of liquor being transported from Telangana in Gurazala sub-division. According to rural district superintendent of police (SP) Ch Vijaya Rao, their team headed by Karempudi SI conducted surprise checks along the river between China Garlapadu and Pedagarlapadu villages in the mandal and found 12 bags of liquor stock.

The SP said that entire stock was illegally shifted from the other end of river located in Telangana and bootleggers were planning to move the stock to different villages by which time their team reached the spot. “The bags contained nearly 1490 bottles of different brands of liquor including Royal Stag two cases, Mansion house 12 cases, IB-7 cases and cheap liquor-3 cases,” said Vijaya Rao. He said that they took two people into custody and seized one vehicle used for transport. He said that they have kept all the police stations along the Telangana border on high alert to prevent the entry of illegal stocks.
