Andhra Pradesh: Portion of roof collapses during Muharram procession in Kurnool, 20 injured [VIDEO]

Kurnool: A portion of a terrace fell during a Muharram procession on Monday night at Bandameedi Thandrapadu village in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district.

Around 20 people were injured in the incident and had to be rushed to Kurnool Government General Hospital.

According to a video of the unfortunate incident, the roof extension of a building collapsed, which caused people standing underneath it to get injured.

Of the 20 people who were injured, five reportedly sustained head and bone fractures.

Reports suggested that the incident took place at a function organized by the villagers on the occasion of Muharram. Several people gathered at the function and some of them stood at the house rooftops to watch the function. However, an extension of the roof of a house collapsed suddenly resulting in people standing atop the roof to fall down with it.

The short video of the Kurnool roof collapse went viral on social media on Tuesday. Muharram marks the beginning of a new year in the Islamic calendar. The month of Muharram is said to be the second-most sacred month after Ramzan in Islam.
