Andipatti booth sees higher voter turnout than Periyakulam

MADURAI: Repolling was conducted at two polling booths in Theni Lok Sabha constituency, booth number 197 in Periyakulam assembly segment and booth number 67 in Andipatti constituency, under tight security on Sunday.


In booth number 67 in Andipatti, which is situated in the Kammavar Saraswathi Middle School in Balasamudram, there were a total of 1,255 voters, including 644 males and 611 female voters.

There was a voter turnout of 79.76 % at this booth.

In the Periyakulam assembly segment, booth number 197 in the Sankaranarayanan Middle School in Vadugapatti went to the polls, with 1,405 voters, including 702 male voters and 703 female voters, to vote for their MLA as well as MP. A glitch in the EVM at this booth delayed voting by about 15 minutes. This booth had a voter turnout of 63.91%.

The voters of these two polling booths were voting for the second time in just over a month. Over 200 police personnel, led by two DSP’s Srinivasan and Ramesh, were deployed on duty for the repolling. DMK Periyakulam bypoll candidate K S Saravankumar and AIADMK candidate Mayilvel visited this booth. Mayilvel was prevented from going in as he was wearing a dhoti with his party colours.

Congress Theni Lok Sabha candidate EVKS Elangovan was also in Theni on Sunday. Commenting on Prime Minister Modi’s Kedarnath cave visit, he said that it was the best place for him to be for the nation’s good.
