Another gangster marries in Nabha maximum security jail

Patiala: Close on the heels of a murder convict getting married in Nabha maximum security jail on October 31, another gangster took the wedding vows on Friday.

Mohammed Wasim, who is a member of the Gagiya Khan gang behind the 2016 Yasir murder case, married a girl from his native Malerkota town inside the jail premises.

The wedding was solemnised at 9am as per the Muslim traditions with the families of both the groom and the bride in attendance.

Wasim has been convicted for murder in Ahmedgarh in 2010 and is serving life sentence. He had recently applied for parole but refused permission by the court. However, his counsel appeared before the court, seeking permission that if Wasim could not be released from jail then he should be allowed to marry inside the jail.

The counsel had cited the October 31 event of gangster Mandeep Singh Dhroo’s marriage on the premises of Nabha jail with court’s permission. The jail officials had helped arrange Mandeep’s wedding at the jail gurdwara after the Punjab and Haryana high court order. The court had allowed eight persons to attend the wedding and given 6 hours time to conduct the ceremony. In Wasim’s case also, all the arrangements were made with the approval of the jail administration.
