Anti-BJP wave is strongest in TN: P Chidambaram

TRICHY: Claiming that anti-BJP wave was the strongest in Tamil Nadu among the states, former finance minister P Chidambaram urged the people to ensure that their votes in Aravakurichi on May 19 changed the regime in the state.

Addressing a pubic rally at K Paramathi in support of secular progressive alliance candidate V Senthil Balaji, Chidambaram said Congress and DMK had contested elections six times in the past and won all of them.

This was the seventh time that they had come together and victory was certain. He said there was no doubt that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have to exit after this election. “If we list the states that have high anti-BJP sentiments, Tamil Nadu will top the list,” he said.

Saying that there was absolutely no governance in the state as the rulers were mere puppets of Modi, Chidambaram said this was not the AIADMK nurtured by former chief ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa. “The moment we think about the present AIADMK rule, we are only reminded of the Tuticorin shooting, Pollachi incident, raid at chief secretary’s residence, river sand scam and granite scam,” he said.

After May 23, BJP will be dethroned and on the same day AIADMK too will lose power in Tamil Nadu. Referring to EPS and OPS duo as ‘Jodi,’ Chidambaram said that after May 23, as Modi leaves the Centre, the Jodi of Tamil Nadu too will leave. “Congress president Rahul Gandhi will become Prime Minister and DMK leader M K Stalin the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Congress rule at the Centre and DMK in the state will together give a stable governance in the state,” he said.

Criticising the AIADMK for going soft on the national eligibility-cum-entrance test (NEET), Chidambaram said BJP leader Piyush Goyal was saying that NEET would continue as AIADMK too had agreed to it. On the other hand, HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said that one state could not be given NEET exemption. “Who gave them the power to intrude into state’s prerogative,” asked Chidambaram.
