AP: Covid-19 death toll breaches 2k-mark, 97 died on Sunday

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 10,820 fresh Covid-19 infections on Sunday taking the cumulative caseload to 2,27,860. The state’s death toll crossed the 2,000 mark reaching 2,036 with 97 deaths reported on Sunday, the highest single-day casualty figures for the state.

Even as the state’s mortality rate stands stable at 0.89%, significantly lower than the national average of above 2%, Andhra Pradesh witnessed 687 deaths in August alone.

The rise in death rate has been proportional to the rate of increase in caseload.

As of Sunday, Kurnool district has seen the highest number of deaths:245, followed by East Godavari which has reported 224 deaths, Guntur 223 and Krishna 212. Kadapa has the lowest fatality numbers : 71.

The state has conducted 24.87 lakh tests so far with a case positivity rate of 9.16%, slightly higher than the national average of 8.93%. There are currently 87,112 active Covid-19 cases in the state. A total of 1,38,712 recoveries have been reported which translates to a recovery rate of around 61%.

As has become usual of late, East Godavari reported the highest number of cases on Sunday as well—1,543 fresh cases. East Godavari is followed by Kurnool which reported 1,399 fresh cases and West Godavari which reported 1,132 fresh cases.

Prakasam, which was once categorised as a ‘red zone’ by the Union government currently has the lowest number of cases among districts—8,535.
