AP tally goes up to 3,571 with 110 cases

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 110 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the cumulative tally to 3,571. The state witnessed two more Covid-related fatalities, one each in Kurnool and Krishna districts, pushing the toll to 62.

This is the fourth time in the last five days that the state has recorded more than 100 cases a day.

There are currently 1,177 active cases with 2,322 recoveries.

After the doors opened for the migrants and foreign returnees in the third and fourth phases of lockdown, there has been a sudden spurt of Covid-19 cases related to these categories in Andhra Pradesh in the last three weeks. As of Sunday, 418 people from other states tested positive for the pandemic, while 111 foreign returnees were diagnosed with the disease during the same period. Chennai’s Koyambedu market contributed nearly 220 cases to the state’s Covid-19 tally.

As per the data aggregated from various districts, Kurnool, the top hotspot of the state, crossed the 700-mark. Krishna and Guntur districts are set to cross the 500-mark.

These three districts account for nearly 50% caseload of the state. Nellore, Chittoor and Anantapur districts, which already crossed the double century mark, have been witnessing a steady rise in cases.

There seems to be no stopping of Covid-19 in East Godavari, the new entrant to move above 200 cases, as the district recorded 20 more Covid-19 cases on Sunday. Gollala Mamidada village in Pedapudi mandal, the ground zero of the local outbreak, alone recorded 105 cases as of Sunday evening.

This is the fourth time in the last five days that the state has recorded more than 100 cases a day.
