Army chopper makes an emergency landing in Assam's Nagaon

An IAF Cheetah helicopter of the Indian Army made an emergency landing in an open field in Assam's Nagaon due to a technical glitch. The chopper was flying from Missamari to Dimapur, and all the three crew members are unharmed. Cheetah helicopters are high-performance choppers designed for operation over a very wide range of weight, a center of gravity and altitude conditions.

The chopper made the emergency landing after it developed a technical snag. Army sources said that all three crew members are safe. The five-seater Cheetah helicopter holds the world record in high altitude flying among all categories of helicopters. It is powered by Artouste - III B turboshaft engine.

"There was a minor technical problem due to which the chopper was forced to land in an open field. It happened at around 7:45 am. Nothing happened to the ones sitting inside the chopper," Sub-Inspector Jyoti Bora told news agency ANI.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Singapore Airlines plane, carrying 228 people, made an emergency landing at the airport in the national capital after suffering a glitch with its nose wheel. According to the passenger, there was apparently "loss of steering capacity" for the plane, which also aborted landing once. The plane made a hard landing and stopped on the runway, he said.
