Strong 6.1 magnitude earthquake jolts West Siang of Arunachal Pradesh; tremors felt in Tibet
A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale struck Arunachal Pradesh on early Wednesday morning, the US Geological Survey said. The earthquake hit the West Siang region of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam at 1:45 am this morning.
The epicentre of the strong earthquake was about 40 kilometres (25 miles) southeast of Along, and 180 kilometres southwest of the state capital Itanagar, says report.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the earthquake's magnitude was 5.8, however, the US Geological Survey said its magnitude was 6.1 on the Richter Scale.
As per USGS reports, it estimated there was a "low likelihood" of casualties and damage from the earthquake. Apart from Arunachal and Assam, another quake -- with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter Scale hit Kathmandu, Nepal at 6:14 am on Wednesday.
The National Emergency Operation Centre, Nepal added earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.2 and 4.3 hit Naubise in Dhading district at 6:29 am and 6:40 am respectively, according to ANI reports.
