As election battle heats up, PM Modi to address rallies in Haryana; Rahul Gandhi to campaign in Maharashtra

Chandigarh: With just a few days left for the upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address two rallies in Charkhi Dadri and Kurukshetra in the state on Tuesday.

On Monday, Prime Minister Modi had addressed the first of his four planned four election meetings in Haryana in Ballabhgarh.

In his Ballabgarh rally, PM Modi had launched a sharp attack at the Congress, asking the opposition party to explain its “love" for Article 370 to the families of security personnel killed in Jammu and Kashmir.

PM Modi also dared the opposition to declare that it will reverse his government's decision to abrogate the special status for J&K if voted to power.

Addressing the public gathering, the prime minister also brought up several other issues including the Rafale jet deal and the law against triple talaq, accusing the Congress of trying to block them.

The Prime Minister will address his last rally in the state in the Jat-dominated district, Hissar on October 18, a day before the last day of election campaigning.

In its manifesto titled 'Mhare sapno ka Haryana' (my dreams of Haryana), the BJP has made a host of promises ranging from doubling of farmers' income by 2022, providing jobs to 25 lakh youth, launching Haryana start-up mission, constitution of a new 'Yuva Vikas and Rozgar' ministry and one All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and increase in pension.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is also scheduled to address two rallies at Wani Vidha Sabha of Yavatmal district and Arvi Vidhan Sabha of Wardha district at 1 pm and 3:40 pm respectively.

The Congress-NCP alliance has promised to reduce penalty under Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) along with immediate farm loan waiver and zero-interest loan for higher education to students in its manifesto for Maharashtra elections.

Polling for the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be held on October 21 along with 288-member Maharashtra Assembly. The counting of votes is scheduled to commence on October 24.
