Nashik: One of city’s busiest junctions — Ashok Stambh — will be shut for traffic movement for 45 days from next week as the smart city company will start work there under the smart road project.

Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) and traffic police department conducted joint visit of the smart road to chalk out the action plan to monitor traffic at this junction to enable the contractor to begin work.

The Ashok Stambh junction, which connects four roads towards central bus stand, Gangapur Road, Ramwadi and Raviwar Karanja, is to be closed from Monday. The notification about traffic diversion will be issued in a day or two.

Smart city CEO Prakash Thevil and DCP (traffic) Pournima Chaugule visited the Ashok Stambh area to chalk out plans on traffic management during smart road works on this junction.

“We have made an action plan for traffic diversion as Ashok Stambh areas will be completely closed for traffic for 45 days from Monday because of the smart road work. The notification in this connection is to be issued either on Sunday or Monday,” said Chaugule.

The traffic on Meher Point- Red Cross Signal (Sangli Bank) and Raviwar Karanja is to be made two-way instead of one-way. Moreover, only light vehicles will be allowed on this route, while buses will not be allowed. Instead, city buses going towards Panchavati will be diverted via Chopda Lawns – Ramwadi and Panchavati.

The project was started in April last year with a deadline to complete it in six months. So far, the deadline has been extended five times.
