Assam: Ulfa-I racket busted, minor rescued

DIBRUGARH: Army personnel in a joint operation with Assam Police busted a recruitment racket of Ulfa (Independent) and rescued a minor from Charaideo district in upper Assam on Monday. They also arrested five Ulfa-I members.


Army sources said that based on a specific input, the joint teams launched an operation across Charaideo and Dibrugarh districts.

During the operation, the teams apprehended one cadre and four overground workers belonging to the proscribed group. The apprehended persons were identified as self-styled private Baldev Teli and three handlers - Amit Bara, Sumit Baig, Azad Gohran and Vijay. The apprehended persons were allegedly involved in a recruitment racket in the region. The rescued minor, who was newly recruited, was handed over to his parents in presence of villagers after counselling. The teams also recovered one 7.62 mm pistol, two rounds of ammunition, mobile phones and SIM cards from them.
