Assistant professor hangs self after quarrel, dies in hospital

GREATER NOIDA: A 26-year-old assistant professor at NIET, who was found hanging in her hostel room at Knowledge Park area on Sunday evening, died in a hospital on Monday.

Ruby Kushwaha (26), was from Kushinagar in Gorakhpur and she stayed in a hostel of the Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology (NIET) where she worked as an assistant professor of biotechnology.

Police said she got married to Saurabh Jain, from Madhya Pradesh, two-and-a-half-years ago. He stays in Mysore and is a PhD scholar.

“We got the information around 6pm on Sunday. The woman was rushed to Yatharth hospital where she stayed on ventilator support,” said Dinesh Kumar, sub-inspector, Knowledge Park police station.

He said the woman and her husband had an argument on the phone on Sunday. “The husband said during questioning that she was going through depression and had a migraine problem. He used to stop her from taking medicines (for headache). He did that on Sunday and it led to the argument. Later, the woman stopped taking his calls and he asked the warden to check on her. The warden found Ruby hanging,” said Kumar.

Police said no suicide note was found and no case has been registered.

An NIET representative told TOI that Ruby had joined in December 2018.

“Tuesday was declared off after we got the news. We extend our support to the family,” he said.
