At 64.7%, Benaulim sees lowest turnout

COLVA: Benaulim assembly constituency queered the pitch as only 64.7% turned out to cast their votes for the Lok Sabha polls, a clear indication that people were confused over varying signals from parties and their leaders.


NCP MLA Churchill Alemao , sources said, had broadly passed a message to his followers that the South Goa Lok Sabha seat was originally with Congress.

However, post ex-MLA Caitu Silva joining Congress, it was rumoured that Alemao passed a discreet message asking voters to choose AAP instead.

A panch from Orlim, who denied having received any such message, said the inclination towards AAP was simply because Francisco Sardinha was perceived as inaccessible.

Congress’ Edwin Barreto said things change after they spoke to AAP’s Royla Fernandes, who urged her voters to opt for Congress .
