Surat: Western Railway (WR) has achieved a significant milestone with the doubling of tracks and electrification of Udhana-Jalgaon section with average speed of passenger trains increasing from 50.55 kilometre per hour in 2018 to 55.72 kilometre per hour in 2019.

Official sources said doubling of tracks and electrification of Udhana-Jalgaon section complete one year on July 22.

The dualized Udhana-Jalgaon section was commissioned on July 22, 2018.

WR has introduced four new trains namely Udhana-Nandurbar, Udhana-Paldhi, Bandra Terminus-Bhusaval tri-weekly and a weekly train between Vadodara and Rewa. Three holiday specials were also introduced between Udhana-Chhapra, Udhana-Barauni and Udhana-Gaya.

A WR spokesperson said, “Uninterrupted directional movement has reduced running time of passenger and goods trains by approximately 1-2 hours, respectively. It has also helped in faster transit of passenger and freight traffic. About 70 mail and express and nine passenger trains were speeded up, thus saving a total of 2,113 minutes and 174 minutes, respectively in a year.”

He added, “The average speed of goods train has increased to 40 kilometre per hour from 24 kilometre per hour in 2018. The 307-kilometre long project linking Udhana in Surat to Jalgaon in Maharashtra has provided a fillip to growth in this rail section, which has 44 stations, 380 bridges, 31 foot-over-bridges and 101 platforms.”
