Back from Mumbai, 31-year-old Manipur man tests positive

IMPHAL: Manipur , which has been a 'green zone' since its last two Covid-19 patients recovered, registered a fresh case after a 31-year-old man tested positive on Thursday.

Hailing from the Khurai area in Imphal East , the infected man, along with four others, had arrived here from Mumbai in a vehicle on Wednesday, local sources said.

The sources added that the man had gone to Mumbai for the treatment of his father, a cancer patient. His mother reportedly died of Covid-19 during their stay in Mumbai.

Confirming the case, a Manipur health department statement released on Thursday night said that one 31-year-old male from Imphal East district , who returned from Mumbai with a non-Covid-19 patient, has tested positive for the dreaded virus.

He is now at the isolation ward of JNIMS hospital here, said the statement issued by Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesman of Manipur health department. Contact tracing and active surveillance in the containment zone will be done immediately, added the statement.

"As a precautionary arrangement, district rapid response teams (RRTs) and surveillance teams have been constituted in all the districts, including 40 sub-surveillance teams in each district," it said.

It added that Covid treatment blocks at JNIMS and RIMS are prepared to take in patients if required.

Quarantining of returning persons for 14 days and social distancing by all remains vital to break the spread of Covid 19 in Manipur, continued the statement.

"Everyone is requested to cooperate for collective safety of our state," the statement said.
