Bahadurgarh Team Clinches Patiala Heritage Festival Polo Cup

In a high pitched polo match, the Bahadurgarh team on Sunday won the title of Patiala Heritage Festival Polo Cup by defeating Quila Mubarak with 7-6 points during Heritage Festival here.Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, who presided over today's event at Patiala Polo and Riding Club and witnessed the royal game amidst loud cheers.Exhibiting royal game’s fine skills, the players were seen responding to the thrilling mood of the match.

The legendary game also encouraged the youth towards sports, besides instilling confidence in them.The Chief Minister was accompanied by his wife and former Union Minister Preneet Kaur, Senior Advisor to CM Lt. Gen (Retd.) T.S. Shergill, Media Advisor to CM Raveen Thukral and other dignitaries.A Heritage Festival organized by Cultural Affairs and Tourism Department in collaboration with Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development, the polo teams of Bahadurgarh and Quila Mubarak played a classic match during the day.During the match, Bahadurgarh team maintained its lead in all four rounds and finally drubbed the rival team with 7-6 points.In first two rounds the Bahadurgarh players had made three points and won the match with margin of one point.
In final round, Colonel N.S. Sandhu of Bahadurgarh and Gurpal Singh of Quila Mubarak had struggled to secure points for their teams but finally the Bahadurgarh team won the match.Meanwhile, the students of PPS School, Nabha also exhibited feats of horse riding. Earlier, an impressive military band mesmerized the audience making the event royal in every sense.Those who played for Quila Mubarak included Rajesh Sehgal, Gurpal Singh, Lt. General Arun Sahni, PVSM, UVSM, SM, VSM (Retd) and Jai Shergill while Ashwani sharma, Vijay Singh, Major Anand Rajpurohit and Col.
NS Sandhu were played from Bahadurgarh team.Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Mayor Sanjiv Sharma Bittu, Lt. Gen. Chetinder Singh, Brig. Varun Sehgal, Brig (Retd.) D.S. Grewal, Captain Amarjit Singh Jaijee, IG Patiala A.S. Rai, Deputy Commissioner Patiala Kumar Amit, SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu and ADC Poonamdeep Kaur.
