Bank guard shoots self

Yamunanagar: An ex-serviceman, who worked as a bank security guard, committed suicide inside the washroom of an Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) branch under limits of Bilaspur police station in Yamunanagar on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Balbir Singh (45) of Makhaur village in the district.

According to sources, he was suffering from some mental duress from the past nearly two months and was undergoing treatment from the PGI, Chandigarh.

Cops said Balbir was an ex-serviceman and was working as an armed security guard at OBC branch in Bilaspur from the last nearly two years and had no enmity with anyone.

Investigation officer Ramesh said, “On Saturday morning, Balbir took his .12 bore rifle inside the washroom of the bank and shot himself with his licensed weapon. After receiving the information, our teams immediately went to the spot for inspection. No suicide note has been recovered from the spot. Family members of the deceased have disclosed that he was suffering from some mental stress from the past nearly two months. He has a well-settled family in Makhaur village. He had married off his daughter a few months ago and his son is settled in Canada. The reason for his extreme step is said to mental stress and we have received no complaint in this matter. After conducting post-mortem examination, the body has been handed over to the family members for last rites.”
